Lisa Shyer obtains a defense verdict in a premises liability case on behalf of International House of Pancakes (IHOP)
Bee v. Elisha Corporation, et al.
Lisa Shyer obtained a defense verdict in a premises liability case in July 2009 on behalf of International House of Pancakes (IHOP). The plaintiff, a customer of the restaurant, alleged that he was injured when another patron followed him outside with a fork from the restaurant and stabbed him in the face. Ms. Shyer convinced the judge to try the issue of liability before damages, saving the client money since costly medical testimony did not need to be presented. Ms. Shyer successfully proved that there were no prior similar incidents at the restaurant that would impose a responsibility on behalf of IHOP to hire security guards. The jury found that the restaurant employees could not have prevented the attack.
